About Me
Like everyone, my wine background began quite modestly. At Thanksgiving dinner when I was eight years old, I was served a heavily diluted dab of pink liquid in a glass not much larger than a test tube. Despite that, it wasn’t bad. Then there were the light sips of
champagne
on New Year’s Eve - even after they let me open the bottle and send the cork bouncing off the walls and ceiling. I remember back then there was some TV commercial for something I long have since forgotten. There was a line that went: “YOU DON’T HAVE
WHITE WINE
WITH STEAK”. Wow, what a faux pas that would be! Fortunately, that is not a faux pas. Reality has set in. Now fast forward to college. Chugging beer and doing shots, naturally. But we had wine, too. Yago Sangria, Lancers, Lambrusco, Mateus, Andre Cold Duck. We college partiers were easy to please as long as it was alcohol. Fast forward again to the ‘80s. Age of white zinfandel and wine coolers. I remember a party where as a joke the host brought a case he paid $3 for. That’s not a typo - $3 a case. Guess what, it tasted like it, too. Just this side of vinegar. Finally as time went on, I started getting into the good stuff and I was hooked. I caught the bug and the rest is history. These days I am involved in several wine and dining groups that regularly meet for dinner, tastings, parties, and wine trips. They have inspired and fed my ever growing appetite for wine and desire for more knowledge. My thanks to them. My life wouldn’t be the same otherwise. Salute!
